It's easy for Windows users to forget that WinZip isn't the only file-compression utility in the world. Like its better-known competitors, the free 7-Zip unpacks a host of archive formats, including ZIP, TAR, GZ, and its own 7z format. Unlike WinZip, though, it can create TAR and GZ archives, which are commonly used on Unix and Linux systems.

The program's ability to shrink files was stunning. In our tests, 7z archives were up to 40 percent smaller then their ZIP equivalents, although compression did take longer, and the highest compression settings can hog system resources. Advanced options include the ability to create solid and self-extracting archives, and to adjust the compression level and password protection. The program also has a command line module. Though the main interface is overly simple and looks like it was designed for Windows 95, it's not hard to use and fairly self-explanatory. The context menu options, which include "testing" an archive, indicate that 7-Zip should be taken seriously.

Morro is being introduced into the market after Microsoft’s commercial flop – Live OneCare 3 years ago. Microsoft had announced in November that it plans to burry that product suite and is gearing up to make a come back with the free Morro service by the end of 2009. We are still unsure about its exact launch date.

Windows Live OneCare will continue to be sold for Windows XP and Windows Vista at retail through June 30, 2009. Direct sales of OneCare will be gradually phased out when “Morro” becomes available.
According to Microsoft, Morro will offer basic features like fighting wide range malicious software including viruses, spyware, rootkits and trojans, making it comparable to low-end consumer products already existing in the market.
“Morro” will be available as a stand-alone download and offer malware protection for

    * Windows Vista
    * Windows 7 operating systems.

No need to panic if your mobile phone gets dropped in water...

Hey.... Now, there is no need to panic if your mobile phone gets dropped in water or became wet because of the rain.
Be cool and follow these steps...



1st step : straight away get into action and remove every cover and detachable part you possibly can like memory card, crystal cover, the SIM card, battery and back cover, etc. Now use a tissue paper or a light cotton cloth to blot away water you can see inside of the phone and be sure to remove as much as you can.
Otherwise, all this water will start spreading and moving to other parts of the mobile and Valuable IC's may be damaged.

Your phone may work now if it was only submerged for a short period of time in water. If else folww these 2 steps also...

2nd step : Take a hairdryer and start drying your phone paying extra attention to the ICs, SIM & memory card slots, battery housing as this normally has small holes which allow air into the phone.



A warning: Don’t hold the hair dryer too close to the phone. Keep it at a distance whereby if you put your hand in front of the hair dryer it would not burn you. Bringing it closer could damage your phone’s electrical components and covers.


If 20-30 minutes of this doesn’t work – go to 3rd step.

3rd Step : By putting it in a warm dry place or in front of the fan, allow the water to slowly evaporate and escape through the holes in the phone by removing the covers and battery.

Adobe released Photoshop CS5...

Adobe revealed that details pertaining its upcoming Creative Suite 5 will be shared with the world during a global online event held on Monday, April 12th (starting at 8 a.m. PST/11 a.m. EST). During the broadcast, Adobe will unveil the new features of both Photoshop, and its new CS Live online offering.

Its very easy to do that.
First connect your memory card with any computer using phone or by a card reader.
Then, from 'my computer' right click that card and format that card in FAT as File system, not FAT32.
Now your card is unlocked.

Symbian is an operating system (OS) designed for mobile devices and smartphones,
with associated libraries, user interface, frameworks and reference implementations of common tools,
originally developed by Symbian Ltd.

In 2008, the former Symbian Software Limited was acquired by Nokia and a new independent non-profit organisation called
the Symbian Foundation was established.
Symbian OS and its associated user interfaces S60, UIQ and MOAP(S) were contributed by their owners to the foundation with
 the objective of creating the Symbian platform as a royalty-free,
open source software. The platform has been designated as the successor to Symbian OS,
following the official launch of the Symbian Foundation in April 2009.
The Symbian platform was officially made available as open source code in February 2010.[3]


Symbian features pre-emptive multitasking and memory protection, like other operating systems (especially those created for use on desktop computers).
EPOC's approach to multitasking was inspired by VMS and is based on asynchronous server-based events.

Symbian OS was created with three systems design principles in mind:

    * the integrity and security of user data is paramount,
    * user time must not be wasted, and
    * all resources are scarce.

To best follow these principles, Symbian uses a microkernel, has a request-and-callback approach to services,
and maintains separation between user interface and engine.

The nokia x6 is a nice step up from the existing nokia 5800 xpressmIts slimmer than the 5800,
the Nokia x6 has modified one of the weaknesss of the 5800 and upgraded the in built camera to a 5 megapixel camera.
However the display screen is still 3.2” 640x360 pixel display as 5800 has.
When purchasing the Nokia x6 you can choose to have the normal version or the the version that “comes with music” allowing you unlimited music downloads.
The Nokia x6 comes with 32GB of non-expandable memory.
The Nokia X6 is a 3G phone with tri-band UMTS and support for HSDPA downloads at a maximum of 6 mbps.
Nokia promt it as a media player, being able to cope with almost all major video and audio formats.
There is a tv out port which helps you to share your data with TV & other monitering devices.
The web browser comes with Flash Lite support and the email client supports Microsoft Exchange and standard protocols.
The Nokia x6 is an S60 smart phone which does mean that new applications can be added in the future. Because of all these things we feel that the Nokia x6 is an improvement on the 5800.
We like its style and handability. The price tag might be a little too expensive for some.

While the existence of the Nokia C5 and the C6 has been confirmed.

While the existence of the Nokia C5 and the C6 has been confirmed, let us remind you that there was another C-Series handset that had made its presence felt in rumorsville not long ago. That's right. We're talking about the Nokia C3.


Well, in a recent development, the C3 has apparently cleared the FCC in U.S. The phone, which bears the internal model number RM-614, will soon see the assembly lines. The FCC website also has an image of the rear of the phone. It is clear by the looks of the phone that it is a low to mid-range segment device that would be targeted at emerging markets. It also appears wider than usual and might as well add a QWERTY keypad? But then, that bit is unconfirmed as of now. But then, it would make sense to have a QWERTY keypad on a phone that belongs to a series that focuses on social interaction and social networking.


Going by the naming convention, the C3 might just be cheaper than the C5. The latter also happens to be one of the cheapest Nokia smartphones currently available. Will the C3 beat it in the price wars? It also boils down to the fact that if this phone indeed gets a QWERTY keypad, it could be positioned above the C5.

Nokia Preparing N8-00 12-Megapixel Smartphone


Out fo China comes the first blurry snaps of what appears to be Nokia's next N-Series phone, the N8-00 which will be the first one that actually runs on the new Symbian^3 operating system that comes with, amongst other things, multi touch.
Popular tech website IT168 has some pictures of the phone which should come with a 3.5-inch (or maybe a 4-inch one) capacitive touchscreen, a 12-megapixel camera with a Xenon flash, Carl Zeiss lens and autofocus, 720p video capture and HDMI output.
The phone, which some sources say might be called the N98, also has a microSD card and shares some similarities with the N900 tablet.  Like it, the screen is a 480x800 pixels model and it has a 1200mAh battery which slides out like the HTC Legend.
Interestingly, there is also a forward facing camera and one of the pictures show the N8-00 phone with a bright greenish colour scheme. We've also noticed that the camera doesn't come with a cover.

On a sidenote, LG never released the Louvre GC990 12-megapixel camera which it showcased back in 2009 and Motorola has yet to come out with such a model.
 No release dates or pricing have been confirmed and no pricing as well. The phone is likely to target the two other 12-megapixel camera smartphones on the market; the Sony Ericsson's Idou and the Samsung Pixon M8910.

 Thanks to Mozilla we got our hands on a Nokia N900 for a few weeks and had the opportunity to give its new Firefox Mobile browser a thorough test drive. Firefox Mobile has a long development history that started in late 2008 when Mozilla announced its very early alpha browser first for the Maemo platform and then for the Windows Mobile platform. While the Windows Mobile version may have been abandoned, the Maemo version just came out of beta earlier this year and is still going strong. Autorun is a technology used to automatically start programs or enhanced content (such as video content on a music CD)
when you insert a CD or another media type into your computer. This is different from AutoPlay,

What is the XPS Viewer?




An XPS document is any file that is saved in the XML Paper Specification, or .xps, file format.
You can create XPS documents (.xps files) by using any program that you can print from in Windows;
however, you can only view XPS documents by using an XPS Viewer, such as the one included in this version of Windows.

When you click an XPS document, it opens automatically in the XPS Viewer.
There are several options for viewing and managing XPS documents in the XPS Viewer, including:

Saving a copy of an XPS document to your computer

Searching the document for a word or phrase

Zooming in or out to make text and pictures easier to read

Safe mode

What is safe mode?
Safe mode is a troubleshooting option for Windows that starts your computer in a limited state.
Only the basic files and drivers necessary to run Windows are started.
The words Safe Mode appear in the corners of your monitor to identify which Windows mode you're using.
If an existing problem doesn't reappear when you start in safe mode,
you can eliminate the default settings and basic device drivers as possible causes.
If you don't know the cause of the problem,
you can use the process of elimination to help you find the problem.
Try starting all of the programs you commonly use, including the programs in your Startup folder,

If your computer automatically starts in safe mode without prompting,

Tips for creating strong passwords and passphrases

A password is a string of characters used to access information or a computer.
Passphrases are typically longer than passwords, for added security, and contain multiple words that create a phrase.
Passwords and passphrases help prevent unauthorized people from accessing files, programs, and other resources.
When you create a password or passphrase, you should make it strong, which means it's difficult to guess or crack.
It's a good idea to use strong passwords on all user accounts on your computer. If you're using a workplace network,
your network administrator might require you to use a strong password.

In wireless networking, a Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) security key supports the use of a passphrase.
This passphrase is converted into a key that is used for encryption, which is not visible to you.

What makes a password or passphrase strong?

Does not contain your user name, real name, or company name.

Strong passwords and passphrases contain characters from each of the following four categories:

For example, Hello2U! meets all the criteria for a strong password listed above,

is a stronger alternative because it replaces some of the letters in the complete word with numbers and
also includes spaces.

Help yourself remember your strong password or passphrase by following these tips:

Create an acronym from an easy-to-remember piece of information. For example, pick a phrase that is meaningful to you,
such as My son's birthday is 12 December, 2004. Using that phrase as your guide, you might use Msbi12/Dec
,4 for your password.

Substitute numbers, symbols, and misspellings for letters or words in an easy-to-remember phrase. For example,
My son's birthday is 12 December, 2004 could become Mi$un's Brthd8iz 12124, which would make a good passphrase.

Relate your password or passphrase to a favorite hobby or sport. For example,
I love to play badminton could become ILuv2PlayB@dm1nt()n.

If you feel you must write down your password or passphrase to remember it,
make sure you don't label it as such, and keep it in a safe place.

 Creating stronger passwords and passphrases using ASCII characters
You can also create passwords and passphrases that use extended ASCII characters.
Using extended ASCII characters helps make your password or passphrase more secure by
increasing the number of characters you can choose from to make it strong. Before using extended ASCII characters,
make sure that passwords and passphrases containing them are compatible with the programs that are used by you or
your workplace. Be especially cautious about using extended ASCII characters in passwords and
passphrases if your workplace uses several different operating systems or versions of Windows.

You can find extended ASCII characters in Character Map. Some extended ASCII characters should not be used in passwords
and
passphrases.
Do not use a character if a keystroke is not defined for it in the lower-right corner of the Character Map dialog box.

Windows passwords can be much longer than the eight characters recommended above.
In fact, you can make a password up to 127 characters long. However,

Nokia C3 Exists; Gets FCC Approval

While the existence of the Nokia C5 and the C6 has been confirmed, let us remind you that there was another C-Series handset that had made its presence felt in rumorsville not long ago. That's right. We're talking about the Nokia C3.


Well, in a recent development, the C3 has apparently cleared the FCC in U.S. The phone, which bears the internal model number RM-614, will soon see the assembly lines. The FCC website also has an image of the rear of the phone. It is clear by the looks of the phone that it is a low to mid-range segment device that would be targeted at emerging markets. It also appears wider than usual and might as well add a QWERTY keypad? But then, that bit is unconfirmed as of now. But then, it would make sense to have a QWERTY keypad on a phone that belongs to a series that focuses on social interaction and social networking.


Going by the naming convention, the C3 might just be cheaper than the C5. The latter also happens to be one of the cheapest Nokia smartphones currently available. Will the C3 beat it in the price wars? It also boils down to the fact that if this phone indeed gets a QWERTY keypad, it could be positioned above the C5.
